FUTURE SHOCK ROCKS YOUR WORLD

Exploring the Impending Impact of Artificial General Intelligence: A Glimpse into Tomorrow's World of Future Tech.

The older you get, the more you tell yourself and otherpeople

‘You know what? I’ve seen it all before.”

Up until quite recently, that might even have been true. History has a habit of repeating itself, like the Germans winning the football world cup, the French surrendering, or the Americans being late to join in the latest world war. Can’t really blame them except for thinking they could probably avoid it if they kept their heads down.

But I do think times have changed.

The worlds newest and most expensive nuke

I’m not able to judge whether that’s for the good of mankind or the greatest existential threat it has ever seen. And those far cleverer than I am seem divided in their conclusions, rather like the invention of nuclear power. But in some ways, even though we came close to Armageddon during the Cuban missile crisis and again some years later, when Russian leader Andropov wanted to make a pre-emptive strike on the USA,

the nuke stuff was easier to deal with. Well, simple really. Please keep your sticky fingers well away from those buttons,

never mind you think you have the moral high ground. It will not make any difference if we are all fried to a crisp.

Bizarrely, I’m not overly worried about nukes, or the latest virus some nutty Chinese professor may create from bats, which will give me the worst flu ever. No,

I’m more worried about AI or AGI as they are calling Artificial General Intelligence.

In case you are wondering what’s the difference is, my view is it's only a name.

You could call it AI on steroids, or conclude it’s grown up and got a bunch cleverer.

The logo of J&P Technologies, which holds one of the worlds leading AI tools

It’s probably far smarter than I am already, but still has not reached the capabilities of J & P Technologies AI brain they called the “Nest”. And in case you don't have a clue what I’m talking about. You clearly did not read the first book in the Eternal Blue series yet.

Back in the real world again, what is so scary about AGI? How is it going to change our lives?

Are we going to become hostages to fortune as robots looking remarkably human start telling us what to do?

Or will we be telling them what to do and they will then oblige as best they can, programmed not to do anything harmful? The film industry has portrayed such lovely little creatures for decades, even giving them sweet voices and a playful nature. Will they really be like that, or the more sinister cyborg type with an agenda with no sense of humour attached to it?

Where and how do we see this playing out, to get a clue about what the future may look like? One area is modern warfare and whichever world power snaffles the advantage in the AI race will come out on top.

That’s why in Eternal Blue there was a desperate fight between the Russians, the Chinese and the western spy agencies to protect J & P’s world beating AI.

Well I wrote that book back in 2020, so I guess I should probably go revise my final draft, using the term ‘AGI’ instead. Remind me to have a word with my editor before it goes to press. But I rather like the two letters of AI. Everyone seems to know them and AGI sounds too much like a giant international insurance group.

But I’m going to point you in another direction to see the future and predict that the AI coming out this year is going to disrupt the film and TV worlds in ways they have not begun to get their heads around. In fact, they’ve got their heads very much stuck either in the sand or up their proverbial behinds. Which is where they may prefer to stay before most are sent into early retirement.

The tsunami of video from text generation is going to sweep the film industry away and create a whole new industry that makes the present one redundant.

Tony Soprano smoking a cigar

Now there will be survivors.

Mike White, the man who wrote the script for The White Locust and directors of the quality of Quentin Taratino, actors with the talent of Cillian Murphy, they may, deservedly, move from strength to strength. But that will be the exception rather than the rule, as AI chops the lesser mortals off at the knees and soon be able to create very watchable film and TV for a fraction of the cost in a fraction of the time. You might even be able to select a role for your double in a re-make of the Sopranos if they ever get around to licensing that possibility. It does not matter that Tony and his human actor are long gone. That’s a minor challenge that AI can solve in minutes, if not seconds.

A very realistic John Waybe could strut his true grit stuff in a perfectly arranged western town. Humphrey Bogart could return for a sequel in Casablanca, with Ric’s Cafe taking on a new lease of life. The opportunities are endless. Though I suspect that the US will quickly introduce the world to some kind of intellectual property and copyright protection, which could ensure that Tony Soprano does not miraculously make a comeback.

Whether the Chinese and the Russians and many of the BRICKS countries will play along remains to be seen. But even if the States moves at lightning speed, I’m not sure that it will be fast enough to save Hollywood as we know it.

The future will not be Hollywood,

not even Bollywood, but Lord Thorold of One Hundred Acre Wood and his savvy AI friends. Real or imagined. Now, if you believe all that, you are likely to believe anything, and that’s where

AI is soon going to be so much smarter and more dangerous than we are.

Text to Video Artificial Intelligence, SORA the worlds leading text to video AI

But if you think I’m joking, take a look at the latest AI application called SORA and see what it’s already doing. If it was commercially available already, you would be watching the pilot of the Eternal Blue series before the end of 2024.
